Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

Do you put off dental visits because of fear? Does the thought of dental procedures fill you with dread? You’re not alone. Dental phobia is a very real, and widespread, condition. In fact, a study conducted by the Academy of General Dentistry shows that 40 million Americans avoid dental visits because of fear or anxiety. At Rowlett Dental Associates, we understand dental anxiety and offer sedation dentistry to alleviate fears and help patients achieve their dental goals, comfortably and calmly.

Types of Sedation

Rowlett Sedation Dentistry

Oral Sedation

The dentists provide a variety of methods to promote relaxation and ease stress, including nitrous oxide, oral sedation, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation.

  • Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is inhaled through a nasal mask during treatment to lessen stress and improve comfort.
  • Oral sedation involves the use of a commonly prescribed sedative taken prior to treatment. The combination of an oral sedative and nitrous oxide is called oral conscious sedation.
  • IV sedation is the deepest form of sedation that we offer. It’s administered directly into the bloodstream by an anesthesiologist.

A Safe, Stress-Free Experience

You’ll feel relaxed and completely at ease during your sedation dentistry appointment, and we’ll monitor your vital signs throughout your treatment. Even with IV sedation, patients are never completely “under.” They can converse with staff to express their needs and answer questions. Sedation dentistry provides the opportunity to complete several procedures in a single visit, which means fewer appointments to achieve a strong, healthy, and beautiful smile. Plus, time flies while under sedation. Upon completion of your treatments, you’ll feel like you’ve been at our Rowlett office only a few minutes!
